Kingston High School, Kingston Tasmania: A-Pod extension
Commercial electrical services for Kingston High School in Kingston, Tasmania, helped support the A-Pod extension, a redeveloped learning environment created for senior students and inquiry-based learning. Compass Electrical + Communications completed the electrical and communications works required to help turn the space into a flexible, practical and future-ready area for learning.
The project called for a coordinated approach across lighting, power, data, audiovisual infrastructure, emergency lighting and building control. As the work was carried out for an active educational facility, reliability, safety and long-term usability were important throughout the installation.
The problem
Kingston High School required electrical and communications support as part of the A-Pod extension. The area was being redeveloped into a flexible learning space for the school’s Years 9 to 12 inquiry-based learning program.
Modern school environments need to support a wide range of teaching styles, student activities and digital technology. This meant the electrical installation had to do more than provide standard lighting and power. It needed to support connectivity, comfort, safety and flexible use of the space.
The work also had to suit the practical demands of a school setting. Systems needed to be dependable, easy to use and suitable for ongoing daily use by staff and students.
The work completed
Compass Electrical + Communications delivered the electrical and communications fit-out for the redeveloped A-Pod space.
The team installed Cat6a cabling to support reliable data connections throughout the area. This gives the school the infrastructure needed for digital learning, classroom technology and connected teaching spaces.
Lighting and power works were also completed across the extension. Energy-efficient LED lighting was used to provide bright, consistent illumination for the learning environment, while new power access helped make the space more functional for everyday school use.
The project also included MATV infrastructure to support audiovisual distribution, along with emergency and exit lighting to assist with building safety requirements.
C-Bus control was integrated into the space, giving the school a more flexible way to manage lighting and related functions. This is particularly useful in learning areas that may be used for different activities across the school day.
The result
The completed works helped deliver a redeveloped A-Pod extension that supports the needs of Kingston High School’s Years 9 to 12 inquiry-based learning program.
The space now has the electrical and communications infrastructure required for modern education, with improved connectivity, efficient lighting, practical power access, audiovisual capability, compliant emergency lighting and flexible control.
For students and staff, the result is a more adaptable and functional learning environment. For the school, it is a future-focused space supported by dependable systems designed for daily use.
